Get to know Kartik Sharma: Your Future School President

Updated: May 17

Hello, my fellow students! I'm Kartik Sharma, and I want to share my story with you as I run for school president. My journey has been a global adventure, spanning two continents , four languages and countless experiences that have shaped me into the person I am today.

My story begins in New Jersey, where I discovered my love for kungfu and books during my elementary school among largely spanish speaking population . As I moved to Asia for middle school, I embraced new challenges and opportunities and leadership roles in school. Attending international school opened my eyes to the beauty of diversity and the power of cross-cultural understanding and a flavour of cultures and mutiple languages. It was here that I discovered my passion for Formula 1 racing, marveling at the engineering prowess and the adrenaline rush of the sport.

Now, as a high school student in New York, I continue to explore and grow new and varied interests . I've become an avid cyclist, pushing myself to new limits as I race along the Hudson Parkway and conquer the trails that lead to Bear Mountain. The exhilaration of breaking records at local go-kart club tracks fuels my competitive spirit of being a Formula 1 fanatic and reminds me that with precision, hard work and determination, anything is possible. The serenity of its courses and the technicality of the game helped me pick up the sport of Golf and become member of the American Junior Golf Association , both as a player and volunteer helping meet fellow golfers in various competitions. Anything can happen at the putt despite the best preparation, best drives can go awry taking you out taught patience and focus despite adversity and better competition as one competes with oneself actually.

Playing basketball in New York has been a game-changer for me and far fetched from the game of tennis, not just on the court but also in my bid to become school president. Through basketball, I'm developing leadership skills, building connections with students from all walks of life in our public courts, street courts, NYC under west highway courts, and helping me appreciate my commitment to our school community. It has helped me to communicate, make tough decisions, and motivate others – all skills that will serve me well as president.

But my passions extend beyond sports. In just one year, I immersed myself in the world of advanced piano, learning to appreciate the complexity and beauty of classical music. From Mozart to Beethoven, from movie soundtracks to the iconic themes of "The Godfather" and "Succession," music has become a new language for me to express myself and connect with others.

As a movie fanatic, I've developed a deep appreciation for the power of storytelling. Exploring films from the last century has given me a unique perspective on history, culture, and the human experience. Whether it's dissecting the intricacies of James Bond movies or analyzing the evolution of Formula 1 over the past 50 years, I've learned the importance of critical thinking and attention to detail.Whether I'm learning a new language, immersing myself in a complex STEM project, or volunteering in my community, taking up leadership initiatives, I approach every task with the same dedication and determination.

But perhaps my greatest passion is that of a world traveler. From the bustling streets of Taj Mahal in Agra to the oldest forts in countries, to the serene beauty of the 17 mile drive in Southern California or rocky Pebble Beach, or exploring the bottom of the Hoover Dam or the thrills of Alcatraz island or enthralling myself at real sets of Hollywood Studios, I've had the privilege of experiencing diverse cultures, languages, and ways of life. These travels have taught me the value of adaptability, empathy, and the importance of keeping an open mind.

So, how do all these experiences and passions tie into my role as a potential school president? They have given me a unique perspective and a set of skills that I believe will make me an effective leader. My global background has taught me the importance of being inclusive and diverse and the power of bringing people together. My athletic pursuits to challenge myself have instilled in me the value of hard work, perseverance, and the ability to lead by example. My artistic and intellectual passions have shown me the importance of creativity, critical thinking, and the power of self-expression.

As your school president, I will bring all of these qualities to the table. I will work tirelessly to create an environment where every student feels valued, supported, and empowered to pursue their own passions. I will listen to your ideas, advocate for your needs, and do everything in my power to make our school a place where we can all thrive.

Here are some concrete steps I plan to take as your school president:

  1. Establish a student advisory board to ensure that every voice is heard and that student concerns are addressed promptly and effectively.

  2. Implement a comprehensive diversity and inclusion program to celebrate our differences and foster a sense of belonging for every member of our school community.

  3. Create partnerships with local STEM organizations like IEEE and SMSE to provide internship, research and mentorship opportunities for students, helping them explore their passions and gain real-world experience before college.

  4. Develop a robust extracurricular program that includes a wide range of activities, from sports and arts to STEM and community service, ensuring that every student has the opportunity to pursue their interests and develop new skills.

  5. Advocate for mental health resources and support systems to help students navigate the challenges of high school and beyond.

Together, we can build a school that not only prepares us for academic success but also equips us with the skills, experiences, and values that will serve us well throughout our lives. A school where every student has the opportunity to discover their passions, explore their potential, and make a positive impact on the world.

So, my fellow students, I'm asking you to vote for me not just because of my achievements, but because of my commitment to learning, growing, and serving our community. Let's embrace our shared passion for discovery, our belief in the power of perseverance, and our desire to create a school that we can all be proud of.

Vote for ME, and let's embark on this incredible journey together. The best is yet to come!
